Easy, beautiful Dolomites drives for nervous drivers

Updated 20 October 2026

Wide, well-built roads with the big Dolomites views: the passes and valleys you can enjoy without white knuckles.

You do not need to drive the Stelvio to see the Dolomites. Some of the best views are on wide, gentle roads with proper barriers and space for buses. These 33 roads all get our easy verdict and at least four out of five for beauty.

Our favourite easy days

  • Falzarego and Valparola from Val Badia: Passo Valparola and Passo Falzarego climb into a rock amphitheatre with First World War trenches at the top. Wide bends, plenty of parking.
  • Campolongo between Corvara and Arabba: Passo Campolongo is the gentlest pass of the Sella group and the calm way to see it.
  • Cortina to Misurina: Passo Tre Croci and Auronzo–Misurina road pass the Cristallo and the lake at Misurina, with the Tre Cime on the horizon.
  • Rolle and the Pale di San Martino: Passo Rolle is wide and open, and the view of the Cimon della Pala is one of the best in the range.
  • Costalunga and Lake Carezza: Passo Costalunga from Bolzano passes the Lago di Carezza and the Latemar.
  • Val di Funes: Val di Funes road is narrow in places but slow and short, and it leads to the classic church view under the Odle.

Ready-made easy routes

Bolzano → Lago di Carezza, Corvara → Cortina d'Ampezzo, Brunico → Cortina d'Ampezzo and Cortina d'Ampezzo → Lago di Braies all have an option without narrow roads. Or enter your own start and end in the route planner; tick the camper option if you drive something large.

Make any pass easier

Drive the famous passes before 9:00 or after 17:00, on a weekday, in June or September. The Passo Gardena on a Tuesday in late September is a different road from the same pass on an August Saturday. Read why in The hardest Dolomites passes, and calmer ways around them.
